News was received in Lewiston yesterday afternoon that the rollway at Lake Grove had collapsed and was practically a total wreck. The weight of the snow on the roof is believed to have caused the roof to collapse. The crash came about two o’clock yesterday afternoon and was heard for some distance. The building was owned by J. AUGUST – After a debate ringing with lines from “Casey at the Bat” and pleas to give Maine’s first pro baseball team a shot at survival, the House on Wednesday passed a watered-down bill to allow beer and wine sales in the Maine Guides’ stadium.

The House voted 96-60 to go along with the Senate’s amended version of the bill, which would bar sale and consumption in the grandstands at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, but allow it in designated areas.

The House is expected to vote on the bill again Thursday. It will then face final votes in both houses, needing two-thirds majorities in both if beer and wine sales are to be allowed in April, when the baseball season at the stadium opens.
