LIVERMORE – The Livermore Elementary School staff has had its two-year accreditation progress report approved, Principal Jeannine Backus told SAD 36 directors Thursday.

Of the 64 recommendations made by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges Inc., a commission on public elementary and middle school, 33 of them have been completed and 27 more are partially completed, Backus said.

The commission’s commendations include:

• Increasing the visibility and understanding of the school’s mission and expectations.

• Establishing literacy coaches and a collaboratively driven student recognition program as examples of beginning to create a building predicated on shared responsibilities.

• Creating professional learning communities.

• Establishing a Good Citizenship/Student Recognition program.

Among the recommendations that still need to be addressed are:

• Continue curriculum alignment, in all learning areas, to the new state standards.

• Continue investigating the need to adopt a single math series to ensure consistent math language and sequence of skills.

• Continue the work started with the anti-bullying committee to develop an action plan for administering the consequences of students’ infractions of the school’s and classroom rules.

The school has until Oct. 1, 2010, to send its five-year progress report. It is expected all recommendations will be completed by then. The two-year report represents “what we’ve accomplished so far and where we’re going and it’s saying we are doing what we said we would,” said Darren Akerman, SAD 36 supervisor of instruction.
