LEWISTON – The LA Youth Hockey League U16 girls’ hockey team won its division of the recent Lions Tournament at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

LAYHL scored 26 goals in its five-game march through the bracket, beginning with a 7-2 triumph over Midcoast U14. Natalie Rousseau scored a hat trick, with two goals by Taylor Landry and single goals from Kaylee Younk and Tia Rotolicco. Katherine Anthoine collected three assists. Rotolicco, Landry, Casey Dumont, Makaela Field and Mariah Martin each set up a goal. Taylor Pare and Jennifer Machin each scored a goal and notched an assist for Midcoast.

Brianna Lajoie backstopped LAYHL throughout the tournament.

Landry’s two goals led the way to a 3-2 victory over Auburn U14. Ashley Chase set up Landry’s second goal. Rousseau also scored with help from Mikaela Brown.

Emma Martineau connected for Auburn with help from Danica Nadeau. Nadeau also scored with an assist to Tori Mae Couture. Savannah Shaw was strong in goal for Auburn.

Rousseau scored four goals in a 7-3 victory over Midcoast. Dumont assisted Rousseau’s last three goals as well as a goal by Martin. Erica Lemieux set the table for the other strike. Martin added two goals and Brown another, assisted by Martin.

Pare, Meaghan Jordan and Eliza Brooks scored for Midcoast. Callie Pendergast contributed an assist.

Lajoie starred in a 5-0 shutout of Auburn. Dumont lit the lamp twice. Brown, Rotolicco and Landry each added a goal. Brown, Younk and Rousseau produced assists.

The shutout streak continued in the title game, with Lewiston blanking Auburn, 4-0. Rousseau registered two more goals, with Younk and Martin each chipping in a goal. Brown doled out three assists, Martin two and Rousseau one.

Three girls were honored at the closing ceremony. Rousseau received the Hat Trick Award, Dumont the Playmaker Award and Lajoie the Shutout Award.

At the tourney’s skills and drills competition, Rylee Letourneau logged the hardest shot at 39 mph. Younk reaped the laurels for most accurate shot. In the skating competition, Brown took home the Slalom Award and Landry the Fastest Skater trophy.

LAYHL also scored a pair of victories last week, knocking off Midcoast U14, 4-2, and topping Casco U14, 7-2.

Rousseau scored a hat trick against Midcoast, with two goals assisted by Dumont and Brown and the third fed by Dumont and Lemieux. Dumont also delivered a goal courtesy of Brown and Rousseau.

Machin collected both Midcoast goals. Caroline Wild and Meaghan Jordan assisted the first, with Pare setting up the encore.

Landry tallied twice against Casco. One goal was unassisted, with Younk creating the other. Younk also assisted a goal by Lemieux and scored a goal of her own by way of Letourneau. Brown and Rousseau each added a goal and an assist, and Chase contributed a goal. Lajoie posted both wins in net.
