LEWISTON – The celebrated Egyptian film “The Yacoubian Building” will be shown from 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College. The film, presented by the school’s International Students Organization, will be followed by a discussion with USM President and Egypt scholar Selma Botman.

“The Yacoubian Building” captures a sliver of modern Cairo, as seen from a 70-year-old building of once luxury flats with tenements on the roof. Allah is on most everyone’s lips and corruption is in their hearts. European values, both refined and worldly, provide a subtext as people explore the shared human condition.

The Lewiston-Auburn campus is at 51 Westminster St. For more information about this and other films in the organization’s Wednesday Lunch and Movie Series, contact Kessi Watters-Kimball at jfk3456@gmail.com or Dr. Barry Rodrigue at 753-6574.
