The popular Irish folk-rock band The Saw Doctors will take the stage Thursday, March 19, at Port City Music Hall in Portland. Taking its name from the itinerant craftsmen who once traveled from sawmill to sawmill sharpening saws, the band from Galway holds the record for Ireland’s biggest-selling single of all time, “I Useta Lover.” The Saw Doctors draws its unique sound from time put in with punk, reggae and Irish bands. Stateside, their songs are often compared to those of Bruce Springsteen, because of the artful blend of the pathos of the workingman’s life cut with band members’ exuberance and sharp wit. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door. They are available at www.portcitymusichall.com and all Bull Moose music stores. The 21-plus show will begin at 9 p.m. Port City Music Hall is at 504 Congress St. For more information, call 899-4990.
