LEWISTON – Maine veteran blues guitarist and vocalist Kevin Kimball will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Little Dan’s BBQ on Main Street.

On Friday, March 20, Kimball and the Steeldrivers will play at Shooters at 347 Lisbon St.

Kimball plays a mix of traditional and classic blues that includes the songs of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker as well as acoustic treatments of the more contemporary work of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.

Playing slide or “bottleneck” guitar exclusively, Kimball uses a variety of guitars ranging from the more familiar flat top acoustic guitar to the lesser-known resonator guitar and the recently developed solid body electric dobro.

While maintaining a traditional no-frills approach to many blues pieces, Kimball also uses modern looping technology on other selections to create a more complex, multilayered sound during live shows.

Co-founder of the Maine Blues Festival, Kimball has been awarded lifetime membership in the Maine Blues Society.

Offering a mix of slash-and-burn bottleneck blues, barrel-house boogie and roots rock, the trio plays original blues tunes as well as classic blues.
