LEWISTON – The Lewiston High School Music Association will host the University of Southern Maine Chamber Singers in concert Tuesday, March 24, at the Franco-American Heritage Center.

The performance will feature more than 150 students from Buckfield, Edward Little, Lewiston and Oxford Hills Comprehensive high schools in a concluding number with the USM Chamber Singers.

The concert, under the direction of Dr. Robert Russell, professor of music at USM and music director of Portland’s Choral Art Society, will include a diverse repertory centered on a cappella literature of the Renaissance era and the 20th century, and music of various world cultures. Chosen through an audition process, musicians of the USM Chamber Singers focus on warmth of tone, precise intonation and the artistry of understanding the nuance of text.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the concert to begin at 7. General admission is $5, with proceeds going to help defray the cost of the UMaine Singers’ fifth European tour in May 2011.
