GORHAM – The Maine Renegades squirts (ages 9-10) clinched the Renegades tournament division championships with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Maine Freeze.

Jarod Lavallee was in winning form, scoring both regulation goals for the Renegades. Cameron Cota scored an unassisted goal in regulation for the Freeze. Ryan Moore also scored, assisted by Jack Shroder.

Following regulation and overtime, goaltenders Ridge Servidio (Renegades) and Nicholas Moore (Freeze) put their skills to the test. Servidio earned the win by stopping every shot. Jack Callahan and Nathan Cooper stepped it up during the shootout, each finding a seam past Moore to capture the win for the Renegades.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the effort these kids have given us all season,” said coach Matt Lavallee. “The result of their hard work shows each time they hit the ice.”

The tournament championship victory was the second in two weeks for the Renegades. They also won the 2009 Ocean State Classic in Rhode Island. In addition, the Renegades Pee Wees (ages 11-12) and the Bantams (ages 13-14) were also victorious in the tournament hosted by the Renegades at the University of Southern Maine.

The Maine Renegades are an elite travel hockey program based in southern Maine. The Renegades are dedicated to helping young athletes develop their hockey skills with emphasis on the principles of discipline, teamwork and fair play.

Players are welcome for the 2009-10 season. Tryouts will be held April 1 for Squirts, Pee Wees, Bantams and Midgets at USM’s Costello Ice Arena. For more information, contact Matt Lavallee at 376-5623.
