RUMFORD – John J. O’Leary Sr., 76, of Swain Road passed away on Wednesday, March 25, at his residence after a brief illness, with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Mexico, on Nov. 14, 1932, a son of Daniel L. and Lucille (Swett) O’Leary.

He was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1952. He went to work for Oxford Paper Co. in 1953, and retired on June 30, 1993, with 40 years of service, retiring as a No. 12 paper machine operator. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Friday night jams.

He loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He treasured the many winters spent with his beloved wife Pauline in Steinhatchee, Fla. He also loved playing cribbage and other card games.

Surviving are his children, John J. O’Leary Jr. and wife, Sheryl, of Rumford, Anne Clifford and husband, Arthur, of Rumford, Patricia Drakus and husband, Walter, of Andover, Kevin O’Leary and wife, Diane, of Rumford, Philip O’Leary of Mexico and Marcia Surette and husband, Thom, of Rumford; two sisters, Elinor Patrie of Rumford and Marylou Doyle and husband, Christopher, of Atlanta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Pauline; a son, Louis O’Leary; a great-grandson, Lucas Vining; four brothers, Donald, Ives, Gordon and Gerald; and two sisters, Dorothy Hosie and Geraldine Lambert.
