“The Class,” winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, will open Friday, March 27, at the Eveningstar Cinema in Brunswick. The film from France, directed by Laurent Cantet, depicts a year in the life of a French schoolteacher working in a tough multicultural part of Paris. It is based on a best-selling autobiographical novel by François Begaudeau. He portrays the main character and is joined by nonprofsessional actors who play the students and help bring the film to life. “The Class” earned an unprecedented perfect score of 100 from 14 different critical reviews, including Variety, Time, Slate, Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Sun- Times, Boston Globe and Washington Post. The film will show daily at 1:30, 4 and 6:30, with an additional show at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Showings for school groups may be arranged for morning hours by calling 729-6796. The Eveningstar Cinema is in the Tontine Mall, 149 Maine St.
