LEWISTON – The Lewiston CareerCenter announced the April workshop schedule and the speakers for the Unemployed Professionals Group.

Topics and speakers for the Unemployed Professions Group:

April 6: “Portfolio Development,” with Cher Tyra of Western Maine Community Action/CareerCenter.

April 13: “Financial Choices that Matter,” with Martin Bailey of Prudential Financial, South Portland.

April 20: no meeting, Patriot’s Day.

April 27: “Create a Resume that Markets Your Talents Resulting in an Interview,” with Michelle Wyman, SPHR, Learning Insights, Harpswell.

The workshop schedule for April includes:

“Résumé Basics and Interview Skills:” April 9 or April 11 or April 23 or April 25, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Thursdays; 9:30 a.m .-1 p.m. on Saturdays. This workshop explores the basics of resumes and applications. Those attending can learn what can make a resume or application stand out in a positive way. In addition, learn how to prepare for a successful interview and how to promote personal qualifications that directly match what the employer needs. “CareerCenter Employment and Training Orientation” is offered weekly. Inquire at the Information Center for a schedule. This program provides an orientation to the Lewiston CareerCenter and its training programs. Registration is required. Call 753-9005 or TTY: 877-796-9833.

In addition, the Lewiston CareerCenter continues to hold Industry Information Tuesdays. Featured in April are health care and construction careers.

On April 7 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., area health service providers will be available to talk with CareerCenter customers interested in exploring health care careers. There will also be area training providers available to discuss the classes needed to launch a health care career.

On April 14, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., area construction service providers will be available to talk with CareerCenter customers interested in exploring construction careers. Area training providers will be available to discuss the classes needed to begin a construction career.

Computer skills building is also available at two community computer labs: B-Street Community Center, Lewiston Adult Education, and the Lewiston Public Library. Contact the Lewiston CareerCenter for the computer lab hours of operation.
