PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — An animal welfare organization that has previously targeted egg farms in California and Ohio is urging supermarket chains to stop buying eggs from a Maine farm that is being investigated on allegations of animal cruelty.

The Mercy For Animals organization said Thursday that the Quality Egg of New England farm in Turner is the seventh egg farm nationwide it has investigated.

Executive Director Nathan Runkle said an undercover investigator has documented cruel conditions at the Maine farm, in the town of Turner.

Quality Egg has not returned a call from The Associated Press.
