While Comcast SportsNet and Time Warner Cable continued to work on a new deal to keep the all-sports station on the air for the long-term, Boston Celtics fans got what they were looking for Friday night – the game.
Negotiations continued through the evening Friday as Comcast and Time Warner tried to hammer out a new agreement. The broadcast of the Celtics game with Atlanta, meanwhile, was uninterrupted.
“Both parties are negotiating in good faith and we’re very optimistic that we’ll be able to finalize a deal,” Comcast SportsNet spokesman Skip Perham said.
Perham said no interruption in the service was imminent and there was no deadline for an agreement to be reached. The Celtics have five games remaining in the regular season, three that will be telecast on Comcast SportsNet. The next game is next Wednesday at New Jersey.
Comcast is asking for an undisclosed rate increase over the 2008 deal has used a text crawl across the screen during Celtics games and other programming to alert viewers to the possibility of losing the channel as soon as Friday. Time Warner officials are calling it a 112 percent hike, but Comcast officials counter that figure is tied to the previous rate from 2007.
The dispute affects about 300,000 Time Warner customers in Maine and western Massachusetts.
