AUBURN – A Sunday afternoon blaze left a Hotel Road family seeking temporary housing and investigators continuing their search for a cause.

“I wouldn’t want to guess at this point as to a cause,” said platoon chief Tim Allen of the Auburn Fire Department.

Allen said the fire at 2310 Hotel Road started at 1:30 p.m. in the kitchen area. The house is owned by Anna Trumenne. No one was home at the time.

Allen said that fire damage was contained primarily to the kitchen area, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the first floor. The second story had only smoke damage. He estimated there was between $15,000 and $20,000 in damage.

“From my understanding, it wasn’t a total loss, but there was substantial damage,” said Lt. Rick Coron of the Auburn Police Department, which assisted the Fire Department with traffic control.

Allen said 14 firefighters were on scene until 2:30 p.m. The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate Monday.
