PARIS – A 30-year-old sex offender wanted by police was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender.

Nicholas D. Morin was taken into custody by the Maine State Police after a vehicle stop on Route 26 around noon. An official with the Oxford County Jail said police recognized Morin and pulled him over.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office put out a notice that they were looking for Morin, who was described as a violent sexual predator, on April 3. Morin was convicted of unlawful sexual contact against a girl under the age of 14 in 2004.

Morin was accused of providing the registry with a false address and phone number after he was released from prison on a probation violation. His previous known addresses had been on Morse Hill Road and Bog Brook Road in West Paris, as well as Highland Terrace in North Monmouth.
