At least Oxford Hills and Lewiston could say they lost to the eventual state champion last spring in girls’ lacrosse.

Brunswick beat Lewiston in the Eastern Class A semifinals and swept Oxford Hills in both the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship game and Eastern final. The Dragons finished their drive with a 15-11 victory over Kennebunk for the title.

It isn’t hard to see the Dragons repeating, with only six seniors departed from last year’s roster of 20. Leila Mills, Eliza Mills and Cecilia Kjellman lead a talented roster of returnees.

Oxford Hills gave Brunswick a run in the conference title tilt, falling 15-10, and such high-scoring games could become a regular part of the Vikings’ repertoire in ’09. Edward Little, likewise, returns much of its scoring punch.

Mountain Valley made huge strides last spring, claiming its first victory in four years at the Class B level.
