GREENVILLE – William A. Young, 77, of Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, in a wooded area of Greenville.

He was born in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada, on Oct. 2, 1931, the son of Blanche and Carl Young. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949, then left for four years in the Navy during the Korean War. After the war, he got a double master’s degree in high school administration and history from the University of Maine in Orono.

He then taught 24 years at Lisbon High School, 12 of those years as the assistant principal. He then worked at Bath Iron Works in purchasing. He retired from Gray-New Gloucester High School, where he worked for seven years as production room manager.

He loved people, family, home and his pet Yorkie, “Monet.” His faithfulness, kindness and dedication will not be forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Claire Fortin Young; his sister, Carolyn (Kay) Riggs of Winthrop; a very dear friend, Larry Laroche; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Brian, six months ago; his first wife, Constance Lecompte Young in 1973; and his parents, Blanche and Carl Young.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Warden Service and the troopers of the State of Maine, especially those in the Greenville, Augusta and Gray areas.
