Farwell Elementary School’s monthly assemblies offer students opportunities for celebrating accomplishments, sharing information and performing in front of a large audience.

Organized by a committee of teachers, the assemblies spotlight 26 Students of the Month, who sit in chairs of honor facing the rest of the student body in the bleachers. Students of the Month, chosen by their teachers, exemplify the school motto about how hard work, learning and caring about others are valued. The student council announces two Staff Members of the Month at each assembly. Maine Family Credit Union supports this program by donating mementos such as water bottles to the honored students, and Deshaies’ Lobster Salad gives the honored staff members a coupon for a free lunch.

Entertainment is an integral part of the assemblies. In May, the Farwell School song will premiere under the direction of music teacher Chris Henry. All students have had input into writing the song. The assembly will be the first time all students and staff will sing it together.

The Green Team keeps the Farwell community environmentally conscious by sharing information at the monthly gatherings. Students learn how to conserve energy and keep the school and city green. They lead the school’s program of recycling drink pouches and cookie wrappers. The most recent project is to adopt a snow leopard. Students brought their pennies to the February assembly to raise money for this cause.
