LMS Guidance Counselors

Seventh-grade students from Lewiston Middle School will join seventh-graders from other schools in Androscoggin County for a day of career exploration, May 12 at Central Maine Community College.

This marks the second year that students have the opportunity to meet with area business people to discuss their jobs and careers and ask questions. The responses from last year’s students, staff and presenters had been so positive that the school worked to offer it again this year. Guidance counselors from area schools have been meeting and coordinating with the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce and Central Maine Community College to coordinate this event.

Throughout the year, LMS students have be involved with a class entitled Career Preparation, where they have completed some individual interest inventories and have been introduced to different jobs or careers they may be interested in or may be interested in learning more about. Students have been learning how to conduct interviews, be interviewed and ask questions that would give more information.

The students will be bused to the college to attend three informal, lecture-style talks with area professionals, who will also answer questions. They will return to the middle school in time for lunch and then continue with follow-up activities.
