AUBURN – Shawn Hird’s fourth hit of the game scored Devin Flynn with the game-winning run in the eighth inning Monday as Edward Little rallied past Leavitt, 7-6, to remain undefeated in KVAC baseball.
EL recovered from early deficits of 5-1 and 6-3. Flynn scored three runs for the Red Eddies (3-0). Ryan Arnold’s two-run double helped EL tie the game in the fifth inning.
Cody Goddard pitched two innings of shutout relief to earn the victory. Goddard also was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Mat Gordon slapped two hits and walked twice.
Doug Nash belted a two-run double for Leavitt (0-3).
G-NG 3, Freeport 0
FREEPORT – Catcher Trevor McCutcheon was responsible for all three runs and was the only repeat hitter of the game, as Gray-New Gloucester shook off Freeport with a 3-0 victory in a baseball showdown Monday.
McCutcheon scored the first run after he doubled and then came home when Freeport (0-2) tried to pick him off at second base. He later doubled again in the sixth inning, driving in both runs for G-NG (2-2)
The Patriots’ Taylor Valente went the distance, striking out eight and giving up just two hits.
St. Dom’s 11, Sacopee Valley 2
AUBURN – Richard Paradis had a pair of hits and drove in four runs to lead St. Dom’s to a season-opening 11-2 victory over Sacopee Valley.
The Saints scored five runs in the first inning to take command. After Casey Parker led off with a single, the next three batters walked. Ben Randall ripped a single that scored three runs for the big hit of the inning.
Parker led the offense with two singles and a double, while Kurt Johnson added two singles. Greg LaBonte had a triple.
Chris Bryant, Paradis and Ken O’Brien all pitched for the Saints. Kyle Jordan took the loss for Sacopee (0-3).
Skowhegan 2, Mt. Blue 0
SKOWHEGAN – In what proved to be a pitcher’s duel, Skowhegan posted a 2-0 win over Mt. Blue in KVAC baseball action Monday afternoon.
Cody Williamson earned the win for Skowhegan (2-1) with five strikeouts. Dylan Vining took the loss for Mt. Blue (1-2), but struck out seven batters in his five hitless innings pitched.
The first run was scored in the first inning. Cody Vigue walked and eventually advanced to third. After Jon Little walked, Vigue scored and Little advanced to second on a passed ball. The second run came in the sixth inning after Brandon Fallon walked, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on Vigue’s hit to record the insurance run.
Oxford Hills 5, Morse 0
SOUTH PARIS – Cody Hadley blasted out a solo home run in the first inning to set the pace for Oxford Hills as it blanked Morse 5-0 in high school baseball action.
Hadley also earned the win on the mound, fanning seven batters en route to the shutout. Nate Dubois smacked a triple, while Matt Verrier and D.J. Cory each had doubles in the Vikings win.
For Morse, Mike Walton hit a double.
Oak Hill 7, Rockland 5
WALES – Oak Hill erupted with six runs in the sixth inning to take down Rockland with a 7-5 victory in a baseball game Monday afternoon.
Rockland (1-1) tried to get back in the game when it rallied with four runs, but it wasn’t enough.
For Oak Hill (2-0), Zach Lennette hammered out three hits and picked up an RBI. Cody Plourde had two hits and two RBIs, and Joey Turcotte had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.
The Raiders’ Isaiah Mills got the win on the mound after coming in relief for Josh Martin in the sixth inning.
Poland 6, Cape Elizabeth 4
POLAND – Ben Piper hit a two-run triple in the first inning as Poland forged ahead to post a 6-4 victory over Cape Elizabeth in baseball action Monday.
The contest was close, tied 2-2 in the fourth inning, before Casey Ray inspired the offensive effort with a single and a stolen base. Ray was then driven home by Kyle Bates. Matt Brewster singled Bates home, before scoring a run himself.
Connor King added a double for the Knights (2-2).
Telstar 5, Boothbay 4
BOOTHBAY – Telstar was limited to one single, but took advantage of five Boothbay errors for a 5-4 victory Monday in their mutual season opener.
All five of Telstar’s runs were unearned.
Three errors in the second inning led to three runs and a 4-1 Telstar lead. Cory Howard single and scored the eventual game-winner in the fourth inning.
Tim Norwood had an RBI single in the first inning for Boothbay, which scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth and left the tying run in scoring position in the fifth.
James Kimball struck out five and scattered five hits for the win. Steve Lewis pitched the one-hitter in the hard-luck loss.
Winthrop 8, Mt. Abram 6
SALEM – Tyler Keene had a two-run single while Jordan Conant had an RBI single in the fifth inning to help Winthrop post an 8-6 triumph over Mt. Abram on Monday.
Conant drove in a pair of runs, while Keene and David Ketchen had two hits on the day.
For the Roadrunners, Dylan Tisor had three RBIs and Josh Beedy had two singles.
Lisbon 7, Jay 3
LISBON – Frank Angelico pitched a complete game and tagged a pair of hits on offense to lift Lisbon to a 7-3 victory over Jay in baseball action Monday.
The Greyhounds (1-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and rallied for four runs in the fourth. Angelico went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, including a double.
Jay Storer took the mound loss for the Tigers (1-2), but like his counterpart, performed well at the plate. He went 2-for-3, while notching a double and an RBI.
Dirigo 8, Monmouth 1
MONMOUTH – A four-run outburst in the first inning propelled Dirigo in an 8-1 MVC victory over Monmouth on Monday.
A combined effort from four Cougar pitchers yielded just two hits and held the Mustangs scoreless for five innings.
James Moulton and Josh Palmer each had a pair of hits for the Cougars (1-1) while Aaron Fenstermacher picked up the win.
David Hobson tallied both hits for the Mustangs (0-1).
