SCARBOROUGH (AP) – A new Wal-Mart Supercenter has opened in Scarborough, bringing 200 new jobs to the town.

The store, which marked its official opening at 7 a.m. Wednesday, employs more than 450 people, many of whom had been working at the old Wal-Mart nearby.

Supercenters are larger than Wal-Mart discount stores and sell both groceries and general merchandise.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Alexandra Serra told WCSH-TV that Scarborough’s old Wal-Mart was incredibly successful for years, but that consumers have been pressing for a larger store with more variety, a grocery and wider aisles.
