LEWISTON – Nationally touring band These United States will appear at She Doesn’t Like Guthries in Lewiston on Tuesday, May 5.

The Washington Post said of the band: “Their songs walk a thin line between the roadhouse and the coffeehouse … they thump and jangle with a gritty charm.”

Their most recent release, titled “Crimes,” is the group’s sophomore album. According a band news release, it was recorded in six short days at Shangri-La Studios and was out to the world Oct. 7. Bandleader Jesse Elliott’s casual croon careens more often towards a yearning yelp as his merry gang hoots and hollers while creating multi-instrumental mischief and sneaking sly saloon smiles, the release said.

These United Sates, according to band publicity materials, bring the classic characters of a world-gone-wicked: bad men in boots and boats, all-too-able Cains, wolves in fresh-shorn sheepskin, sold-out sirens of the seashore, knife-wielding big-talking drunk drinkers, Moriartys, don Quijotes, Samuel Clemenses, and all manner of disillusioned Appleseeds in between – with the occasional dogged optimist thrown in for good measure.

The show starts at 9 p.m. and there is no cover. For more info call 376-3344 or visit myspace.com.
