A Weld Street resident reported an attempted burglary at 5:30 p.m. April 2. Sgt. Jeff Howe said the woman had been the victim of previous burglaries and thefts. The door knobs of the door at the rear entrance were bent, but entry was not successful. Police have a suspect.
Underage alcohol use
Residents lodged a complaint on April 24 of several underage boys consuming alcohol at the town gazebo on Main Street. Aaron Stone, 18, of Auburn Road, Peru, was summoned on charges of illegal alcohol consumption and possession of alcohol. A 16-year-old boy was also summoned on the same charges. Two other teenage boys ran off before police could charge them.
Stone is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on July 7. The juvenile, who was turned over to his mother, will appear in juvenile court at an unknown date. Sgt. Howe said it is believed a transient bought the alcohol. He said people who buy alcohol for underage youth or provide a place for them to drink are subject to a $1,000 fine.
