PORTLAND – Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold the annual District Convention over two successive weekends, May 22 to 24 and May 29 to 31, at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The theme will be “Keep on the Watch,” taken from Jesus’ words at Matthew 24:42.

To stimulate public awareness for the convention, the region’s 90 Witness congregations are distributing a personal printed invitation to each home in the area titled, “How Can You Survive the End of the World?”

The Witnesses believe that the “end of the world” does not mean the destruction of the planet, but the elimination of global violence and suffering. How the Bible clarifies the subject will be the focus of the program.

An estimated 10,000 are expected to attend over the two weekends. The program will begin at 9:20 a.m. each day. Admission is free and no collections are taken.
