POLAND – Marjorie I. Houston, 81, a resident of Empire Road, Poland, died Tuesday, May 19, at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1928, in Freeport, the daughter of Everett and Grace (Thompson) Ireland. She was a graduate of Edward Little High School in 1946. On Nov. 7, 1947, in Durham, she married her husband of 58 years, Homer W. Houston Jr. He passed away Aug. 3, 2006.

She worked at Bates shoe shops and area nursing homes. She was a member of the Eastern Star-Casco Chapter. She enjoyed playing beano, watching birds, taking pictures, collecting elephants and thimbles and watching television.

She traveled with her late husband along the East Coast to Florida, and most recently enjoyed a trip to Nashville with her children. She always had a big smile and was full of fun. More than anything, she loved the time she spent with her family.

She is survived by four daughters, Beverly Winchenbach and her companion, Joey Poulin, of Livermore Falls, Roxane Eli and her husband, Mark, of Auburn, Brenda Gurschick and her husband, Norman Gurschick Sr., of Minot and Cynthia Brown and her husband, Randall, of Oxford; one son, Homer “Sam” Houston III and his wife, Joan, of Poland; 12 grandchildren, Todd Winchenbach, Brian Houston and his wife, Lia, Lynn Houston, Lindsay Elie, Justin Elie, Brandon Elie, Norman Gurschick Jr. and his wife, Jamie, Amy Gurschick, Laura Gurschick, Evan Gurschick, Brittany Brown and Ryan Brown; three great-grandchildren, Breannah Merrill, Madelyn Gurschick and Levi Tynes.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert and Howard Ireland; and a grandson, baby Elie.
