EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ruth W. Strom, 92, of East Bay Manor, East Providence, Rhode Island, formerly of Auburn, passed away on Saturday, May 23.

Born 1917 in Auburn, Ruth was a daughter of the late Horace and June (James) Williams. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1934.

Ruth married Joseph Strom in 1969.

Ruth raised her family in Massachusetts.

She worked for many years in Connecticut at Hartford Hospital and Hartford Public Schools as a food service supervisor prior to her retirement.

She returned to Auburn in 1983, where she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Auburn, the Priscilla Circle of United Methodist Women, First Auburn Senior Citizens and the Robin Dow Senior Citizens Club, volunteering for many programs including those at Central Maine Medical Center, the Republican Committee and the American Red Cross.

In 2000, she moved to Rhode Island to be near her family. Her many friends at East Bay remember her as always willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed traveling, poetry and singing. She loved her family and lived a full and active life.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Norma Waddell and husband, Ronald, of Barrington, R.I., and Patricia Delaney and husband, William, of Dennis, Mass.; a son, Alan Gibbs and wife, Michelle, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by two sisters, Marion Eaton of Buckfield, and Alice Saucier of Auburn; and a brother, Charles Williams of Buckfield.
