AUBURN – Richard Paradis ripped a single up the middle with the bases loaded to score the winning run in the seventh inning to lift St. Dom’s to a 7-6 triumph over Fryeburg in a WMC baseball game played Saturday.
Chris Bryant picked up the win in relief for the Saints to improve his record to 5-1.
Greg LaBonte’s two-run single highlighted the Saints’ outburst in the third inning to give them a 4-0 advantage. After Fryeburg (6-7) tied it, St. Dom’s (12-1) regained the lead on ben randall’s sacrifice fly, but Fryeburg knotted the game at 5-5 on John Benoit’s RBI double in the sixth.
Casey Parker hit a triple for St. Dom’s, while Shane Curtis had a pair of singles.
Lewiston 5, Morse 2
BATH – Jeff Keene scattered seven hits and helped himself with a two-run home run in the second inning to lead Lewiston to a 5-2 victory over Morse in KVAC baseball game Saturday.
Keene struck out seven and walked just one batter to keep the Morse hitters off balanced.
The Blue Devils (6-8) scored four runs in the first two inning to take command. Dave Ouellete had a single and double, while Keene and Alex Wong had two hits apiece.
Losing pitcher Mike Walton had two hits, including a solo home run for Morse (0-14). B.J. Ray and Carl Nygaard also had two hits.
Buckfield sweeps
JACKMAN – Buckfield managed to take two from Forrest Hills, beating the Tigers 13-1 and 8-7 in a baseball doubleheader Saturday.
In the first game, the Bucks (9-4) had no problem with Forest Hills, cutting the Tigers down to size after building an 8-0 after just two innings.
Tony Fortier lead the way on offense with three hits, Kyle Rines doubled twice and singled, and Cody White had a double and single. Tyler Weymouth walloped a home run and singled. Pitcher Isaac Smith got the win on the mound after being relieved in the third inning by Brian Litchfield. The Bucks used 11 hits to subdue the Tigers.
In a tight Game 2, Smith smacked a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to rescue Buckfield with an 8-7 victory. The Bucks had built a 6-0 lead before Forest Hills eruped with five runs in the fourth inning.
For the Bucks, Fortier had two hits, Smith also doubled and catcher Alan Hedrick tripled.
Wells 2, Poland 1
WELLS – Wells scored the game-winning run on one of Poland’s five errors for a 2-1 victory over Knights on Saturday.
Losing pitcher Matt Brewster kept Poland in contention by scattering nine hits and walking no one, while striking out five. Wellss pitchers Brian Trefelthen and James Mannion combined on a four-hitter.
Poland (5-9) scored its only run in the sixth inning when Nick Douglass singled, stole second and third bases, and scored on a fielder’s choice.
Hall-Dale 8, Monmouth 6
MONMOUTH – Brandon Gilbert roped a two-run single in the third inning as Hall-Dale took advantage of an error ridden Monmouth in an 8-6 victory in baseball action Saturday.
The Mustangs (3-8-1) outhit the Bulldogs (9-3) by a margin of 12-6 but committed seven errors. Eric Smith had three hits and two RBIs for Monmouth in the losing effort.
Rangeley, Greenville split
GREENVILLE – Joe Gilbert smashed a three-run double in the eight-run second inning of the nightcap as Greenville split a doubleheader, 2-7 and 10-4, with Rangeley in baseball action Saturday.
Jordan Richard produced a three-run double in the third inning of the opener to propel Rangeley (10-2) towards a 7-2 win. Ross Gordon tossed eight strikeouts to earn the mound win.
Zach Abbott cracked a two-run single in the third inning of the nightcap to shorten Rangeley’s lead to 10-3, but the deficit was too much to overcome by Greenville.
Mtn. Valley 10, Carrabec 0
RUMFORD – Justin Staires ripped a two-run triple in the first inning as Mountain Valley blanked Carrabec 10-0.
The Falcons (11-1) got liftoff with a four-run first inning. And, Anthony Vitale lit the afterburners with a two-run double in the fourth.
Gary Manzur took the mound loss for the Cobras (1-9), having received only two hits in offensive support.
Mtn. Valley 16, Mt. Abram 3
RUMFORD – The Falcons produced eight consecutive hits in the second inning as Mtn. Valley crushed Mt. Abram 16-3 in MVC baseball action Saturday.
Garrett McPherson, Ryan Laubauskas, Jon MacKenzie and Brady Fergola spearheaded the Falcons’ (12-1) proliferous 10-run second inning.
Hank Poulin was the only repeat hitter for the Roadrunners (7-6) in the losing effort.
Erskine 8, Oak Hill 6
WALES – Tom Grady drove in the eventual game-winning run as Erskine Academy came away with an 8-6 triumph in nine innings over Oak Hill in KVAC baseball action.
Ethan Wall hit his third single of the game to lead off the ninth inning for the Eagles (6-9). Wall stole second and was subsequently driven home on Grady’s single.
Joey Turcotte recorded three hits, including a double, for the Raiders (8-7).
Gray-NG 12, Freeport 0
FREEPORT – Taylor Valente launched a pair of home runs as Gray-New Gloucester cruised to a 12-0 victory over Freeport in WMC baseball action Saturday.
In addition to five RBIs on two home runs, Valente struck out four and gave up only one hit to earn the mound win for the Patriots (7-8). Joe Billings also connected for a three-run home run in the four-run fourth inning for Gray-New Gloucester.
Oxford Hills 6, EL 5
SOUTH PARIS – Matt Verrier plated Kyle Farrar with an RBI double in the sixth inning to lift Oxford Hills to a 6-5 victory over Edward Little.
The Red Eddies’ (11-3) pitching staff gave up 10 walks in the game.
Devin Flynn had two hits, including a two-run double in the fifth inning to give the Red Eddies a temporary 5-3 lead.
Livermore Falls 15, Jay 0
DIXFIED – Livermore Falls was held without an extra-base hit, but still eased past Jay 15-0 on Saturday.
The game was moved to Dixfield because of unplayable field conditions in Jay.
Bryan Maurais led the Andies (11-3) with three singles and four RBIs. Livermore Falls only had seven singles, but took full advantage of several walks from Jay’s pitching staff.
Kyle Storer hit a double for Jay (2-12)
Wiscasset 5, Telstar 0
BETHEL – Jimmy Davis was stifling on the mound, striking out 10 batters, walking just two, and allowing just one hit, as Wiscasset rolled over Telstar with a 5-0 win.
The Redskins jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. For the Redskins, Colby Verrill hit an RBI double and Matt Etter his a one-run triple.
Lacrosse
Mt. Blue 13, Mtn. Valley 1
FARMINGTON – Zac Conlogue recorded five goals and an assist to lead Mt. Blue to a 13-1 triumph over Mountain Valley in KVAC boys’ lacrosse action Saturday.
Lance Dwight contributed four goals and two assists as the Cougars (10-0) remained undefeated.
Levi Rajaniemi made six saves for the Falcons (1-9), while Ben Altmaier turned back four shots to earn the win in net for Mt. Blue.
