PORTopera will present ‘Secret Marriage’
PORTLAND — PORTopera’s Maine’s Emerging Artists program will present Domenico Cimarosa’s “The Secret Marriage” at the Portland Museum of Art and Deertrees Theatre in Harrison.
While originally written as a two-act opera to be sung in Italian, PORTopera will present an abbreviated version (about 90 minutes) sung in English.
“The Secret Marriage,” written by the Italian opera composer Domenico Cimarosa, a contemporary of Mozart, premiered in 1792. Taking place in 18th century Italy, it is a classic tale of entangled affections and the fight for true love.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Portland Museum of Art (for tickets and information, call PORTopera at 879-7678); and at 8 p.m. July 7 at Deertrees Theatre (call 583-6747 or visit www.deertreestheatre.org).
