South Paris – Arnold G.” Arnie” Farr, 78, of Norway, formerly of Poland, died Friday at the Maine Veterans Home.

He was born in West Poland, May 8, 1931, the son of Edwin and Elvira Martin Farr. He attended school in Poland and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School. He then graduated from barber school in Lewiston. On May 31, 1952, he married Abbie Nelson, who died Dec. 25, 1994. Arnie faithfully served his country in the Army from June 5, 1952, until May 11, 1954. He served in a tank division in Germany. In 1955, he built his home and on July 22, 1957, opened his barbershop on Maine Street (Route 26), in Poland, and was there until his retirement on June 15, 1993. He loved baseball, after the war he tried out for the Philadelphia Phillies, he was involved in the town baseball teams and was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, the simple things in life, such as doing chores around the house which pleased him. He loved his family and friends. He always had many stories to share with his customers, he was a people-person. Arnie was also a member of the Howling Moose Club.

Survivors include two sons, Steve and his friend, Tammy, of Poland, David and Helena of Oxford,: his longtime companion, Priscilla Crosby of Norway,: grandchildren, Mary-Abbie, Kyle, Laura, Amanda, Harmony and Hautumn,: great-grandsons, Seth and Simon; a sister, Christine and Ron Hanscom of Bethe; a sister-in-law, Mary Nelson of Portland,: a brother-in-law, Donald Keene of West Poland; his dog Bentley; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Leland and Martin; and sisters, Ellen, Olive and Nonie.
