BANGOR – Dirigo Girls State will hold its 63rd session at Husson University Sunday through Friday, June 21 to 26. The 250 delegates are selected from girls who have completed their junior year in high school. They will role play in mock government sessions to learn more about how town, county and state governments are designed to operate in the state.

Sunday night’s speaker will be Sen. Susan Collins, followed by State Attorney General Janet Mills, who will discuss the process of naturalization and swear the girls in as honorary citizens of the State of Dirigo.

On Monday evening, speaker will be Tim Wilson, past director of the Seeds of Peace Program in Otisfield.

Gov. John Baldacci will address the delegates on Tuesday evening. The girls will be campaigning and preparing for the political rallies on Wednesday night. Primary elections will be held Wednesday and general elections Thursday.

The week will culminate on Friday with an inauguration and awards ceremony. Friday evening will be the graduation, special awards and announcement of two delegates who have been selected to attend Girls Nation in Washington, D.C.
