LEWISTON – The duo of Denise and Connie (Denise Marois and Connie Cote) will perform at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Franco-American Heritage Center as part of Festival FrancoFun 2009.

They will present a variety of musical selections, including Broadway songs from “My Fair Lady” and “The Sound of Music,” as well as songs made famous by French artists Edith Piaf and Mirielle Mathieu. A highlight of the program will be Marois’ interpretation of Celine Dion’s “The Prayer.”

Cote has been a leader and advocate of Franco-American culture as a radio host for French programming for 47 years, and creator of the local Franco-American Festival. She had been county commissioner and a member of the Maine Legislature for many years and is currently a member of Festival FrancoFun 2009.

Originally from Berlin, N.H., Marois is choral director for Our Lady of Ransom Church in Mechanic Falls and has developed a repertoire of music steeped in Franco-American as well as musical theater traditions. She has been a member of Theatre North in Berlin and Portland Players in Portland; and is co-owner/producer of Maine Street Entertainment and Mystery for Hire.

Also scheduled to perform during the festival Saturday and Sunday, June 19-21, are local Franco-American musicians The Trio, Melanie Saucier, Louis Philippe, Les Chanteurs Acadiens, Chantal et Marcel, Gizele Laliberte, Robert Sylvain and the Cajun Aces.
