RUMFORD — The Maine Association of Nonprofits recognized Rumford Group Homes Inc. with honorable mention in the large nonprofit category at its annual Leadership Conference on April 17.
MANP’s Dirigo Nonprofit Awards are given to nonprofits that have achieved significant results by combining ingenuity with sound management practices.
Rumford Group Homes develops and administers programs to enhance the
safety and quality of life for families.
Rumford Group Homes Inc. is a nationally accredited nonprofit
social-service agency. Since 1974, it has served abused, neglected and
homeless youth and their families throughout Maine, with an emphasis in
Oxford, Androscoggin and Franklin counties.
The agency provides a
variety of supportive services through its residential treatment
programs, crisis program, housing and case management programs,
homeless youth outreach services, homeless shelters, and low-income
housing to children, adolescents, young adults and families.
Rumford Group Homes was named a finalist in part because of its dedication to its employees and the community as a whole, as well as its imagination in creating new programs.
“We are proud to offer high-quality services that make a positive impact for the children and families which we serve,” said James Ippolito, board of directors president.
According to Annie Sutton, MANP Manager of Member Development, Rumford Group Homes takes the time and allots the funds to ensure that staff are appreciated and recognized for their work and that their employees are given the tools they need.
Sutton also cited Rumford Group Homes’ fundraising efforts. In recent years, the agency has successfully applied for funding from community and family foundations and, as a result, has been able to develop new programs to meet community needs. One notable example is the development of three emergency shelters for homeless individuals.
Rumford Group Homes was also recognized for its collaborative efforts. When the agency took over a shelter in Norway, it developed strategic alliances with local businesses, the faith-based community, clubs and private individuals to help it reopen.
This year’s first-place award winners are Goodwill Industries of
Northern New England, Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center and Maine
Farmland Trust. Other Dirigo finalists are Pine Tree Legal Assistance,
Sustainable Harvest International, The Telling Room, Spruce Run
Association and Hardy Girls Healthy Women.
