RUMFORD — Ashley Duguay of Mexico was selected as the Mountain Valley High School student for the 2009 Joyce B. Roy Scholarship from Rumford Group Homes Inc.
Annually, Rumford Group Homes awards scholarships to a student at Mountain Valley High School and to a student at Dirigo High School in Dixfield.
Duguay, a 2009 graduate, received top awards in multiple classes over her first three years in school and graduated sixth in her class of 135.  She was inducted into the National Honor Society in her sophomore year and held the position of secretary for two of those years.  She attended Region 9 School of Applied Technology to earn her CNA license and was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society there.
Duguay participated in a variety of extracurricular activities. She helped form the International Club, with a purpose to exchange information and ideas between different cultures while promoting diversity.
She has been a Girl Scout for 13 years and recently received her lifetime membership in Girl Scouts USA.  In addition to her extracurricular activities, Duguay maintained two part-time jobs, working as a CNA at the Rumford Community Home and as a library assistant at the Mexico Public Library.
Duguay is the daughter of Jeanie Duguay of Mexico and the late Pete Duguay of Mexico.  She plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree in nursing and has been admitted to the University of Fort Kent.
