LEWISTON – Medical mayhem is the order of the day in “The Dastardly Doctor Devereaux,” a musical to be staged as a benefit for the Marguerite d’Youville Fund for the Needy at St. Mary’s Health System.
The play will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 10-11, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Franco-American Heritage Center. The Marguerite d’Youville Fund for the Needy assists patients, residents, employees and persons connected with the health system who are in crisis. It provides for such basic needs as food, medications and transportation, in a confidential manner.
In this play, the evil Dogsbreath Devereaux, M.D., (Dr. M.Ed Kelley) plans to marry Lotta Cash (Cassandra Quintal) so he can inherit her fortune and her late husband’s clinic. Helping him is nasty nurse Hilda Hatchet (Katie Marois), whom he promises to wed after he gets rid of Lotta.
The insanely jealous Hilda catches Dogsbreath flirting with Wendy March (Sarah Emerson). Hopefully, Dr. Phil Good (Doug Miller) can save Wendy and the unsuspecting Lotta from certain death. The show has an abundance of zany patients and wild tunes, including “How Do You Bandage a Broken Heart?,” “Emergency” and “Do the Bop.”
The dastardly group is directed by Tom Vurgason and choreographed by Annette Bourque. Others working behind the scenes are props manager Linda Henderson, sound operator Sam Howes, make-up assistants Ann Marie Mullins and Stephanie Hilister Croteau and musicians Dawn Tritch on keyboard and Matt Thomas on drums.
Cast members include Cheryl Pawloski, Bryce Libby, Melanie Lecours, Haley Grimmer, Olivia Grimmer, B.J. Nadeau, Mary Ellingwood, Mike Grimmer, Kelly Nadeau, Brogan Kelley, and Patricia Albert Dehetre.
Special guest appearances will be made by Susan Keiler, Rosemary Henry, Peter Watko, Kevin Healey, Diane Marquis Monaghan, Elizabeth Keene and Ed Latham.
