LEWISTON — Gayton Post won a pair of pitchers’ duels with Rogers Post of Auburn, winning 4-1 and 2-1 to move into first place in Zone 3.

Willie Emerson tossed a five-hitter and struck out eight in the opener, while Kyle Neagle won a tight match against Cody Goddard in Game 2.

In the opener, Gayton took a 2-1 lead on Emerson’s RBI single and Chris Jacques’ RBI single in the second. Alex Wong knocked in an insurance run in the fifth with a triple.

Gayton (7-1) scored both runs off Goddard in the nightcap on sacrifice flies, including the game-winner by Mekae Hyde.

Rogers (6-3) had tied the game when Billy Brewster hit a double to score Ryan Arnold.

Neagle allowed five hits for the win, while Goddard surrendered six. Both pitchers had four strikeouts.

Wong had two hits in each game for Gayton. Emerson and Jeff Keene had two-hit games.Brewster and Mike Lutz had two hits in Game 2 for Rogers, while Cody Larue had two hits in the opener.

Andy Valley, Mechanic Falls split
TURNER – James McLamb hurled a no-hitter in a run-rule-shortened Game 2 of a twinbill Saturday, and Willie Brown and Isiah Wright belted a double each to help Andy Valley to a split with Mechanic Falls in American Legion baseball action.

McLamb struck out two and walked three, but the Mechanic Falls bats fell silent in Game 2 as Andy Valley earned a 10-0 victory. Chris Boone and Ryan Jackson also had a pair of hits each for Andy Valley.

In the first game, Mechanic Falls earned its first win of the season. Trey Ouellette, who earned both the win in Game 1 and the loss in Game 2 on the mound, scored on a Nick Douglass double in the fifth inning to lift Post 150 to a 4-3 triumph.

Mike Littlefield also had a double for Mechanic Falls (1-8) in the first game,while Andy Valley (4-4) got doubles from McLamb and Zach Keene.
