Marie A. Simard

1912 – 2009

Rumford – Marie A. Simard, 96, of Isthmus Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday July 5, at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Plesisville, Quebec, on Oct. 23, 1912, a daughter of David and Marie Anne (Vaillancourt) Boucher.

Marie married Joseph L. Simard on Oct. 27, 1930, and together they raised 12 children which included two set of twins.

She and her husband owned and operated Simard’s Fuel & Excavating Co. for 30 years.

Marie was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was a lifelong resident of this community.

Surviving are her children, Irene Richards and husband, Raymond, of Mexico, Joseph L. Simard Jr. and companion, Jean Gammon, of North Andover, Lorraine Barre and husband, Norman, of Rumford, Robert Simard and wife, Anita, of Rumford, twins Constance Jacques of Arizona and Roger Simard of Rumford, Brandy Burgess and husband, Donald, of Georgia, Shirley Cote and husband, John, of Rumford, Theresa Webber of Ogunquit, twins Daryl Simard of Rumford and Sylvia Simard of Arizona; 29 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and many great great-granchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Joseph L. Simard Sr.; a daughter, Jeannette Cote; a brother, Alfred Boucher; twin brother and sister, Henry and Emilia Boucher; a sister, Rose Clifford; and brothers, Leo Boucher and David Boucher.
