1939 – 2009
LEWISTON — Adrian E. “Smitty” Smith, 69, of the Ferry Road in Lisbon, passed away late Friday, July 3, at d’Youville Pavilion, with his wife and son at his side.

He was born in Easton, Aug. 8, 1939, a son of George and Loena (Kennedy) Smith. He was educated in schools in northern Maine, but has been a resident of this community most of his adult life.

On Jan. 23, 1960, he married Marilyn Fogg and together they settled in Lisbon to raise their family. Smitty worked as an oil and gas burner technician for many years, first spending several years working for Wakely Fuel and later working many years at DownEast Energy, until his retirement in 2004.

He was a very active member of Lisbon Falls Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, as a member of the executive board and as a teacher and mentor in the Junior church. Among his favorite enjoyments were good times spent with family and friends and watching and following stock car racing. He was a very loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend who will be missed dearly.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Smith of Lisbon; his son, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Sandy, of Lisbon; his daughter-in-law, Linda Smith of Freeport; five grandchildren, Nathan, Leanna, Chelsie, Miranda and Austin Smith; a sister, Wanda Ruxton and husband, Matthew, of Orange Park, Fla.; a brother, Ervin Smith and wife, Benedine, of Presque Isle; a sister-in-law, Helga Smith of Killeen, Texas; a very close and special family friend, Sandy Webber and husband, Floyd, of Lisbon; and the loving and devoted staff at d’Youville Pavillion.

He was predeceased by his son, Timothy Smith; his brother, Wayne Smith; and his parents.
