LEWISTON – L/A Arts and The Androscoggin Land Trust invite artists to participate in River Ways, a fine art exhibition and auction with an emphasis on the Androscoggin River.
Artwork submissions should reflect the natural and/or manmade environment along the Androscoggin, although works related to a more generalized river theme will also be considered.
For seven weeks, beginning Aug. 28, L/A Arts’ Gallery 5 will display the artwork, which will then be moved to the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch for a gala celebration in honor of the land trust’s 20th year. The event will include a harvest dinner and art auction, with proceeds benefiting L/A Arts and The Androscoggin Land Trust.
“Maine visual artists, with their perception and sensitivity to natural beauty, have been vital to the state’s creative economy and instrumental in promoting Maine’s uniqueness for decades,” said Patrick McGowan, commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation.
“We currently are developing plans for the Androscoggin Riverlands State Park, our first new park in 25 years, and I’m sure that the artists who explore the area will find inspiration to create special art works,” he said.
The River Ways exhibit will be juried and is open to any New England artist in all mediums. Interested artists may submit up to four pieces of art, via digital images on CD, to L/A Arts at 221 Lisbon St. Lewiston, ME 04240. Guidelines and submission forms are available online at www.laarts.org or by calling L/A Arts at (207) 782-7228. Submission deadline is July 26.
