AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – Maine energy officials say the average cash price for home heating oil is down by 2 cents a gallon this week.

The Office of Energy Independence and Security said Tuesday the statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil is $2.32 per gallon, 2 cents lower than last week. Average prices were lowest in southwestern Maine and highest in the north.

Energy Director John Kerry says that while factors like supply, demand and inventories point to lower prices, the heating oil market is still subject to volatility and wide price fluctuations. Kerry says it’s not too early to prepare for next winter’s heating season now by weatherizing homes and planning a heating budget.
