WEST PARIS — Voters unanimously accepted a used ambulance from United Ambulance Service as a gift to the Fire Department. The decision was made at a special town meeting June 25.

Town Manager John White said the vehicle will replace the 1991 rig now being used by the department.

The donated ambulance will be used as a utility vehicle to transport equipment that can not be stored on firetrucks such as air packs and other related articles needed at fire scenes.

“We are updating the unit by 10 years and are pleased to be getting a newer vehicle which will serve us for several years in the future,” White said.

The vehicle will be delivered and outfitted soon to join the fleet.

Voters also approved several changes in the town’s Board of Appeals ordinance. The changes were mostly in vocabulary, strengthening people’s rights regarding land- use disputes.

At the selectmen’s meeting earlier, the board voted unanimously to designate Morse Hill, Tuell Town, Stearns Hill and Forbes roads as ATV access routes to allow safe connections between trails. They set the speed limit at 25 miles per hour for safety reasons.
