LEWISTON — Louisiana’s Grammy-nominated Cajun musician Al Berard and his Cajun Combo will bring a new expression of Cajun music, from spicy to sublime, to Little Dan’s BBQ and Grill on Wednesday July 15. The trio will play from 7 to 10 p.m. There is no cover charge.
The Cajun Combo will also perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Brick Church on Christian Hill Road in downtown Lovell. Tickets are $10 general, $5 for children. Tickets will be available only at the door the night of the show.
Berard and his Cajun Combo perform two-steps and waltzes and string-style featuring twin fiddles, twin mandolins and French vocals. The stringed family combinations give listeners a feel for the timeless songs that come from Cajuns living in southwest Louisiana.
Musical director and fiddler/mandolinist Al Berard, Cajun French Music Association’s fiddler of the year, was born and raised a bilingual-speaking Cajun and native son of Louisiana. He has played traditional French-Cajun music all his life and enjoys sharing both the music and anecdotal stories of his home and his culture with his audiences.
He has performed worldwide for 30 years. Berard’s former band, the Basin Brothers – whose album was nominated for a Grammy – has played many concerts in Maine.
Mark Trichka (mandolins, guitar) and Lisa Brande (fiddle, octave mandolin, guitar, vocals), both part-time Louisiana and Vermont residents and full-time touring musicians for more than 20 years, add texture and depth to Berard’s musical expressions. More information about the group may be found at www.cajuncombo.com. Little Dan’s is at 757 Main St.
