BUCKFIELD — One man was arrested and another injured early Thursday morning during a dispute over tobacco.

Matthew W. Allen, 26, of Norway, remained at the Oxford County Jail on Thursday afternoon on $30,000 bail after being charged with aggravated assault.
Trooper Jason Wing of the Maine State Police said a 51-year-old man began arguing with Allen at a Sodom Road home after Allen took some tobacco from him.

The man was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital by Buckfield Rescue with injuries to his face and ribs. He told police he thought he had been struck with a flashlight, Wing said.

“We haven’t been able to find any tools or weapons that were used,” Wing said. “I believe he did use an object.”

Wing, along with state Trooper Tim Turner and Deputy George Cayer of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene at about 12:15 a.m. Wing said Allen left the home after the incident, but then walked back to it. He was cooperative upon arrest, Wing said.

He said Allen also contacted police to report that the man had shot over his head with a firearm, but police found no evidence to support that.
