Harvard Pike Sr.
1920 – 2009
CONYERS, Ga. — Harvard Lana Pike, son of Geneva Chase Pike Westerland and Merle Gould Pike died at his home in Conyers, Ga., on July 7.
He was born in Lisbon Falls, Sept. 18, 1920. He graduated from Lisbon Falls High School and the Aviation Training School at Roosevelt Field, Queens, N.Y. He worked more than 40 years for Northeast and Delta Airlines, retiring in 1983.
During World War II, he served with the Air Transport Command, flying Bombers and supplies from the United States to Greenland and Europe. In 1943, he married Muriel Folkins of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.
While living in Peabody, Mass., he was a member of Jordan Lodge 543 F&AM and served as advisor to the Peabody Chapter, Order of DeMolay.
He was an accomplished carpenter, avid gardener, enjoyed model trains and boating. He spent his summers in Harpswell and Hope.
He is survived by his brother, Sherman Pike of Lynnwood Wash.; his daughter, Ethel Pike of Vershire, Vt.; son, Harvard (Rusty) Pike Jr.; granddaughters, Erin Pike and Kelly Bayer of Orlando, Fla.; grandson, Ryan Pike of Peabody, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, and son, Jonathan, both of Conyers; and his sister June Maxfield of Fort Benning, Ga.
