WEST PARIS — Selectmen reviewed six bids for building a grandstand at the Harold C. Perham Athletic Complex on High Street and expect to make a decision July 23.

Three bids covered site and concrete work as well as construction: $68,000 by Scott Rainey, $77,000 by Lexmax Construction; and $82,000 by J.A. Haskel Builders. The rest covered only site and concrete work, or carpentry: $25,850 from Everett Excavation; $20,408 from T.K. Concrete; and $41,732 from Protech Builders.

The board will check references and comparisons before making a decision. It’s hoped the project will be done later this year.

The 1945 grandstand was burned and the town and individuals have been raising money to replace it.

In other business, Town Manager John White told the board that the West Paris library expansion project is getting closer to being started. The cost is expected to be more than $330,000.
The addition to the rear of the building will provide storage space, reading rooms and computer space. It is hoped the project can get under way soon, White said.
