CHESTERVILLE — Police say three men who allegedly took tools, gas and other items from a barn on Kahoon Road have been charged with burglary and theft.

Steve Lee, 23, of Wilton, Chad Simoneau, 19, of Farmington and Barry Webber, 44, of Farmington, were arrested Thursday night, Lt. Niles Yeaton said Monday.

Franklin County Cpl. Nate Bean and Deputy Sandy Burke responded to a residential alarm just after midnight on Thursday, Yeaton said.

Bean saw a blue pickup sitting beside the road and ran a check on it. He spoke to two men in the truck who told him another man was relieving himself in the woods, Yeaton said. As Bean was questioning the occupants, he saw some items in the back of the truck.

In the meantime, Burke went to the farmhouse where the alarm was reported. He then called Bean to come to the house. Bean, along with his police dog, Diesel, went to the house where Diesel did some tracking and indicated the men in the truck, Yeaton said.

Bean smelled a stale gas odor at the truck that he also smelled at the residence. However, the deputies could not reach the owner of the property and didn’t know if anything was missing, so the three men were released, Yeaton said. When Bean met with the owner of the property later in the day, the man told him what was missing.

Among the items missing were a jack, a tool box, a hack saw, brush pruners and 15 gallons of gas. Bean had seen those items in the suspects’ truck, Yeaton said.
