Grange meeting

POLAND — Excelsior Grange 5, 446 Harris Hill Road, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Saturday,
July 18. The topic of the lecturer’s program will be hobbies, followed
by an ice cream social served in the lower hall. All members and guests
are invited to attend. 

 Scholarships available

AUBURN – Auburn Housing Authority has announced a $750 scholarship for a Section 8 voucher resident who resides in one of the following towns: Auburn, Poland, Turner, Minot, Mechanic Falls and New Gloucester. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or currently attending an accredited institution of higher education.

An application may be obtained by going to Auburn Housing Authority, 20 Great Falls Plaza.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, July 31, 2009.

Project award

LEWISTON – The Maine Association of Planners’ Awards Committee
presented the Project of the Year award to the documentary film
“Neighbor by Neighbor – Mobilizing and Invisible
Community in Lewiston, Maine,” prepared by filmmaker Craig Saddlemire
for The Visible Community.

The documentary was nominated by Jim
Lysen, AICP of Lewiston. The documentary won because it exhibited
excellence in the following areas: originality, transferability,
quality, implementation and comprehensiveness, the judging criteria
used by the American Planning
Association and the Northern New England Chapter of the American
Planning Association awards programs.

The award was presented at the association’s annual meeting on June 5, at the University of Southern Maine.
