LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer an Intimacy after Cancer workshop presented by Oncology Outreach Social Worker Emily Ecker, LCSW.

The 90-minute workshop is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, July 20, in Conference Room I at 12 High St. on the CMMC campus. Admission is free for all who wish to attend.

The workshop is developed by the American Cancer Society as part of the I Can Cope series. Participants will explore self-esteem and intimacy issues that may arise as a result of cancer and treatment. Ecker hopes to create an environment where people can feel comfortable to learn, self-reflect and communicate with their loved ones.

“Many people are uncomfortable talking about intimacy and sexuality with others,” said Ecker. “I’ll be using a more expansive definition of intimacy that includes loving ones self, loving another person and loving together.”

To register for the workshop, call the Dempsey Center at 795-8250 or toll free 1-877-336-7287. For more information on the center, visit www.dempseycenter.org.
