SOUTH PARIS – Joe Sullivan gave up single runs in the first two innings and then shutout Bessey Motors the rest of the way as Gayton Post earned a 4-2 win in American Legion action Tuesday.

Sullivan scattered four hits and struck out eight for Gayton (13-1).

Bessey scored in the first and second innings, but Gayton produced took the lead with a pair in the third and added another in the fifth.

Greg LaBonte led the Gayton offense with three hits and two RBI. Jeff Keene also had three hits while McKae Hyde had a pair. Andrew Kenniston led Bessey Motors with two hits.

Brunswick 15, Swasey-Torrey 2

DIXFIELD — Connor Kelley excelled at the plate and on the mound as Brunswick tripped up Swasey-Torrey, 15-2, in a Zone 3 American Legion contest shortened to five innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

Kelley collected two hits, two runs and two RBI’s in leading Brunswick’s 13-hit attack. On the hill, he fanned eight, walked one and surrendered six hits and two earned runs in five innings of work. Kevin Wilson had two hits and scored three runs and Adam Totman added a pair of hits for Brunswick (10-4).

Tyler Gates continued his torrid hitting with two hits and drove in both runs for Swasey-Torrey (2-12).

Rumford 12, Mechanic Falls 9

POLAND – Justin Staires had three hits and three RBI to lead Rumford to a 12-9 win over Mechanic Falls Tuesday in Legion play.

Dan Whiting had a pair of hits and drove in three while Matt Laubauskas had two hits, including a solo home run as Rumford (8-7) broke open a tie game with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Nick Douglass, Cote Leland and Connor King all had two hits for Mechanic Falls (3-11). King and Leland each drove in a pair.

Staires also struck out five to earn the win in relief. Trey Ouellette struck out six before being relieved in the fifth.
