POLAND — The Thompson Lake Environmental Association annual meeting will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 1, at Camp Fernwood. Camp Fernwood is hosting the event and will provide coffee and refreshments.

The association will have items for sale as well as a raffle of handmade items and photographs by Kathy Cain, co-president of the association. There will be an opportunity to view and tour the milfoil eradication boat, the “Hippobottamus.”

Keynote speaker for the meeting will be Maine Representative Jim Hamper who will speak on Maine’s vision for lake environmental protection. Jeff Sterns, a consultant and grant writer for the Sebago Lakes Environmental Association, will speak and Dr. Scott Bernardy and Rob McVety will report on the Thompson Lake Milfoil Eradication Project. Directors will be nominated and elected for the next two years and committee reports will be given by the chairpersons. All interested persons are invited to attend.

Friends and neighbors are also invited to the association’s “All-American Barbecue” at Agassiz Village Camp off Johnson Hill Road In West Poland. It will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 22, and will include barbecued chicken, hamburgers, side dishes and homemade desserts with lemonade and water.

All will be served on the porch of the world’s oldest and largest log cabin in the U.S. at the camp. Prior to the barbecue, there will be a benefit walk/run from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. on the campgrounds, with maps and water provided. 

Entertainment will be provided again by The Travis James Humphrey Band who will perform original songs as well as some well-known golden oldies.
