Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Keough
1931 – 2009
LEWISTON — Elizabeth “Betty” Keough, 78, a resident of the Plains Road, Poland died early Thursday, July 16, at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side after a very short illness.
She was born in Liverpool, England, March 5, 1931, the daughter of William and Sarah Lewis. She grew up in England, and married her husband, Arthur on July 15, 1950 while her husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force in England. As an Air Force wife, she traveled the world with her husband, and family until her husband’s retirement from the military in 1968. It was at that time they moved to Auburn. After her husband, Arthur died in 1982, she resided for 26 years with her son, Donald.
Betty loved spending time with her family. She loved cooking especially making éclairs on special occasions for her family. Her other hobbies included travel, gardening, crossword puzzles and upholstery.
Survivors include five sons, Arthur and wife, Nancy, of Auburn, Wayne of Magnolia, Texas, Ronald and companion, Eleanor Starbird, of Auburn, Donald of Poland and Lawrence and wife, Lorie, of Buckfield; five daughters, Carolyn Ames and husband, Scott, of Auburn, Patricia Koskela and husband, Waito, of Woodstock, Sandra Hippen and husband, Scott, of Brook Park, Minn., Cynthia Scott and husband, Thomas, of Magnolia, Texas, and Christine Coolidge and husband, W. Thomas, of Bethel; one brother, Frank Lewis of Liverpool, England; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Evan, William and Jack Lewis; and one sister, Stella Patterson, all from England.
